She disappeared early in the month of May, having been last
seen in her home town. Her family, friends and even boyfriend of a few months
helped search for her body
The boyfriend's name is Manuel Mansilla, and despite his
seeming willingness to help it was under his patio where Chiara's beaten,
mangled body was eventually found.
The motive for the murder became clear as soon as a
toxicology report was revealed: she had abortion drugs in her system and was
found to be six weeks pregnant
Mansilla confessed to the crime, as he was surrounded by the
evidence, but police decided he would be charged with forced abortion as well
as his girlfriend's homicide
In the coming days it was determined that Mansilla's mother
and her partner likely helped commit the murder of the nearly 150 pound girl,
as he could likely not have done it on his own
While nothing will take away the pain of Paez's death, more
awareness for violence against women in Argentina has led to more vigilance and
potentially stricter punishment for offenders in the future
