The embattled former Minister of Petroleum Resources,
Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been removed from parts of the Chevening
Scholarship website. In 2002 Diezani Alison-Madueke was awarded the British
Foreign and Commonwealth Chevening Scholarship in order to attend Cambridge
Business School for a Master’s in Business Administration.
Alison-Madueke is no longer listed as a Chevening Alumnus at
their International Women’s Day 2015 located on their website. The Independent
newspaper in the UK pointed out that their event pays “tribute to women who it
said personified the slogan for the event – ‘make it happen.’”
This event was intended to highlight women Chevening alumni
making positive contributions globally. It is worth noting that most of
Alison-Madueke’s theft took place before 2015, during the heyday of the
Jonathan administration when she was Minister of Petroleum.
These developments have come on the heels of international
condemnation and embarrassment stemming from the revelation of Alison-Madueke’s
arrest by the National Crime Agency (NCA) for bribery and money laundering.
