Legendary Musician Dies After Battle With Cancer David Bowie Dead

The world lost one of its most beloved talents on Jan. 10 as David Bowie, 69, died after a difficult 18-month battle with cancer. The singer-songwriter, producer and actor was one of the most influential artists of his generation recording numerous classic songs. His death is truly heartbreaking, leaving fans across the world in shock.
“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer,” read a statement posted on the artist’s official social media accounts. “While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.” No further details were released at this time.

Born David Robert Jones in Brixton, London, England on Jan. 8, 1947, the English singer-songwriter’s latest album, Blackstar, was released on his 69th birthday. He released his first hit song, “Space Oddity” in 1969. In 1972 he spearheaded the glam rock era with his albums The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. David became known as one of the most theatrical pop stars of all time creating the androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust. This was just the beginning for the musician though as he became known for his creativity, reinvention and innovation. He continued to make amazing music for over 40 years, releasing a multitude of iconic hits such as “Changes,” “Heroes,” “Rebel Rebel,” “Jean Genie,” “Young Americans,” “Ashes To Ashes,” “Lets Dance,” “Modern Love” and “Fame,” just to name a few.
Throughout his career, David sold an astronomical 140 million records worldwide and ranked number 39 on Rolling Stone’s  list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.” David’s lifetime of musical achivement was recognized in 1996 as he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The record producer, arranger, painter, and actor was truly an artist enjoying a successful film career, shining in roles in Zoolander, The Prestige, The Last Temptation of Christ and Labyrinth.
David is survived by his wife of 23 years, model Iman, as well as his two children, Alexandria “Lexi” Zahra Jones and Duncan Jones who confirmed the sad news via Twitter. Fans and celebrities are mourning his death.
